If this invention is used, the diagnosis procedure shrinks from two weeks to an hour and a half. And the disease can be detected at an early stage. The leading oncological hospitals of the country have already shown their interest in this biochip.
“…It is difficult to remember, probably something fell onto my head…”
That is how the oncologist from Nizhny Novgorod, Svyatoslav Zinovyev explains why exactly he decided to develop a unique biochip for diagnosing cancer. He is just being modest. So he doesn’t even mention sleepless nights, years of studies and the assistance of other oncologists from Nizhny Novgorod. All of them strove to create a completely new and effective method for diagnosing cancer. Today Svyatoslav demonstrates the result of his hard work
Svyatoslav Zinovyev, Oncologist, Head of the Department of Medical Innovations at Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy: “…It is a model…”
Just a few centimetres in size, but this small biochip may be the future of oncological diagnosis. The biochip will be used in two cases. Firstly, to detect breast cancer. As opposed to traditional screening, now the diagnosis process will shrink from two weeks to an hour and a half. And the examination itself will cost at least 50 times cheaper. The second function of the biochip is to determine in which organ the malignant tumour grows.
The biochip itself looks like a container with 15 compartments. Each compartment is filled with a protein reagent. The biological material is injected into these compartments and if a cancer tumour is detected, the compartment begins to glow. It is possible to diagnose cancer at the earliest stage.
Aleksey Nikonov, Head of the Press Office at Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy: “It is a well-known fact that the success in cancer treatment depends on how soon the disease is diagnosed…”
At the moment the development of the scientist from Nizhny Novgorod is already included in the investment catalogue of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The leading oncological hospitals of the country have shown their interest in this biochip. Currently, the tests of the invention are coming to their end. If everything goes well, it is most likely that the production of such biochips will be started in our region. And Svyatoslav Zinovyev also promises not to stop his work on developments.
